Pizza Bianca

Here is a photo of the Pizza Bianca. I believe this was the one that I made. The dough was in the stand mixer and very very wet. Naomi made hers in the food processor and it was still great, but not as "flaky", though we think that was because she had to add a bit more flour.
Arr, no plans for baking this weekend. I am not even sure about cooking. It's been a week of leftovers. I'd love to put my hand to something whole wheat, maybe waffles. I'd love to try adding some vanilla to them as Mike suggested. He swears that's why Waffle House waffles are so darn good!

No baking, just the bitching

So, I went to Weight Watchers tonight. I haven't been feeling the motivation at all, not for at least two months. And it shows. I had been going with two women from work, who both told me that they are pregnant, both of them! So, back to my Thursday night meeting at the East Lake YMCA. It's a great meeting actually. It's like going to church, the leader Melba actually starts preaching at some points. True, she's preaching Weight Watchers, but it is fun watching her.

Anyway, Melba was going around the room, getting people to respond to her lecture. She asked a man in the back, "what good habit do you need to take up?". His response has had me thinking ever since. So simple, so necessary. "Stop sayin' what you are gonna do and Do what you're gonna do".

It's true. I get so frustrated seeing people make bad decisions day in and day out, and here I am, doing it myself, three, four, five times a day. I know for sure I will always want to eat good food, I will always want to eat too much too, but boy am I sick of dieting. I am sick of paying for something I am not doing. I am sick of thinking about it. Just tired, too tired. But I know I am going to keep doing it too, the alternative is too depressing. I cannot give up, I think that would be admitting failure. I just cannot do it. I am too stubborn.

So, this weekend I will be baking the pizza bianca, and inputting the recipe into the Weight Watchers points plan to see what it will cost me. And somehow maybe I will figure out how to make what I love to do fit in with what I have to do.

Now off to bed before I pour that bowl of cereal!

St. Valentines Dinner

Finally, finally. The photos of Mike's beautiful Beef Bourginon.

The soup was French Onion and absolutely perfect. Way to go!

Which I don't know how to spell! Or really take a photo of. Practice will help I am sure.

This weekend's project is to make a test recipe from Cook's Illustrated Test Kitchen: No-Roll Pizza Bianca with Capicola and Fontina...the hardest part will be finding the ingredients!

Pancake Love

It was harder than I anticipated to make free-form heart-shaped pancakes. I made a plate of these mini hearts for Lily but she wasn't feeling up to eating and fell asleep on the sofa while I did the cooking. She had a slight fever and was congested. I tried to put her in bed but she woke and insisted on a bath. It was probably a good idea as the warm moist environment loosened up the congestion. After her bath she managed to sit in bed and eat her pancakes and a cup of yogurt. The sprinkles were her favorite part. We plan to make some mini apple muffins tonight but no big baking plans. I think I've managed to pick up the little bug Lily's harboring.

Valentine's Day

I have no Valentine's plans. I will try to do something nice for Lily tonight. I was thinking of heart-shaped johnny-cakes. She would think carbohydrates and a princess movie would be very special. I've never tried to shape a pancake though. I have some red and pink sprinkles that I'll use to garnish her plate and I'm sure she will be in heaven!
Hello! Not much baking going on for me tonight.
It's Valentines Day and as tradition dictates Mike has already been in the kitchen producing a meal that looks wonderful.
Here is tonight's menu:
  • French Onion Soup
  • Frenched Green Beans
  • Beef Bourginon
  • Egg pasta
  • Creme Brule

I will take a photo tonight, Ciao!
